Message from the CEO

Sue Karzis, GAICD

At State Schools’ Relief we’ve been assisting disadvantaged Victorian students since 1930. Over the past 7 years, the demand for our services has increased dramatically. From a high of just over 38,000 students supported in the 2015/2016 year, the 2021/22 year saw us assist more than 67,000 students in government schools with school uniforms, shoes and a host of other essential educational resources.

In the last financial year, 85% of all Victorian state schools were assisted by State Schools’ Relief – that’s 1,330 schools.

Every day, we hear from schools who have students attending without the necessary items they need to fully engage with their education. The evidence from schools consistently reinforces the positive outcomes achieved by providing these essential items. These include:

  • Improved school attendance
  • Improved self-image and well being
  • Increased student engagement

We are so grateful to the many Victorian schools, partner organisations, individuals, philanthropic foundations and corporate businesses that support us every year.  It is your generosity and belief in our mission that enables State Schools’ Relief to continue to provide such an essential service.
