Receiving Glasses

Frequently Asked Questions

“The Glasses for Kids program is an amazing program. The staff are professional, kind and were able to make the children feel comfortable with the test.”

Will it take time for my child to get used to wearing glasses?

Yes! Adjusting to new glasses can be challenging. If you’ve never worn glasses before, simply having frames on your face may seem strange and take some time to get used to. On top of this, some people may suffer from problems such as headaches, dizziness, or their eyes may water. For most people, they will get used to the new sensation within a matter of days. If after a period of two to three weeks your child is still still struggling with headaches, dizziness or watery eyes, then you should consult an optometrist. They will be able to double check/adjust the prescription to ensure it is comfortable for your child.

If a new prescription is needed within three months of receiving the glasses, Glasses for Kids will remake them at no cost. Please email the prescription including the PD to glasses@glassesforkids.com.au

Young eyes change as they grow. Optometrists recommend that children have their eyes re-tested every 12-24 months, or earlier if your child is showing symptoms of vision challenges.

Glasses for kids will provide one (1) replacement pair, within the first 12 months of receiving the initial pair.

The glasses can be taken to your local optometry clinic to be resized which can usually be done at low cost. A map showing our partner clinics is available on this website.

Alternatively your child’s school was supplied with ear hooks by the Glasses for Kids program. Ear hooks are silicone pieces that slip over the frame arms to help the glasses stay behind the ears. If needed, please contact your child’s school to obtain a pair of ear hooks.

Your child’s prescription can be found attached to the outside of the small bag the glasses are in. Should you need a copy of the prescription, please email glassses@glassesforkids.com.au including the student’s full name, date of birth and school name.

We love hearing your feedback! It helps us to continue to improve the program and highlight the positive impact the program has on so many Victorian students. Please email your feedback to info@glassesforkids.com.au.
